Jannik Rode cannot remember a day where he felt more excited than the day he left Undersort for Northland University, Ikkegodt. Jannik also cannot remember a day where he felt more relieved than the day he left Northern University after twelve weeks of what he would later refer to as "the three most suicidal months of my life". Coming back to Undersort with a lifted heart and a head teeming of tactics, treatments and tricks to be undertaken, little did Jannik know than none of his plots would go to plan. Jannik's father, Jonna; a baggage detector for women and a self confirmed spiritualist, had other plans for Jannik.
Jannik wanted simplicity, to take a year out get a job in a café and a small apartment would have fed his needs, his father however, in Jannik's opinion, wanted to complicate things making Jannik reapply to colleges and universities across the country. Keeping Jannik confused and too busy to worry about getting a job Jonna distracted him with projects and errands for two months until his creativity ran out. Jannik's grandmother, Maret Rode, then took his place as she had stacks of steer. After living through World War Two and countless revolutions, granted none of them in her own country but she claims to have still lived through them, Maret was a credulous calculator with ever worst-case scenario played out in her mind and to each one she had a solution.
Since the age of six Jannik had lived with his grandmother in a two by tow meter bedroom in her house on Pilous Place Road and Maret felt she knew the young man like the back of her hand, which she regularly found herself studying to avoid boredom. Maret used all of her knowledge to convince Jannik that he should do as his father wished just as Maret was convinced that she had convinced Jannik, Jannik was not convinced. So, for reassurance and piece of mind Jannik turned to his best friend Dick. Dick was a journalism student, homebody, obsessive compulsive and passionate cigarette smoker. Dick reassured Jannik that he should do whatever made him happy, and Jannik's mind was made up; he would find a job in a café and a tiny apartment and live his simple life, but of course take the scenic rout so that his father or grandmother would not notice.
